Mathenge Technical Training Institute (MTTI) was officially launched on November 25, 1984 through the spirit of Harambee — a landmark occasion led by the then area Member of Parliament, Hon. Mwai Kibaki (later President of Kenya). The institute was established to provide technical and vocational education to the people of Nyeri County and the surrounding region.
Since its founding, MTTI has grown from a small technical school into a nationally recognized institution offering CBET programmes at Levels 3–6 across 11 departments. The institute is accredited by TVETA, CDACC, and KNEC, and is ISO 9001:2015 certified — a testament to its commitment to quality education.
Located in Othaya, Nyeri County, MTTI sits on a scenic campus offering modern workshops, state-of-the-art laboratories, a modern library, the Jitume Digital Lab, student hostels, and sporting facilities. With 40+ years of excellence, the institute has produced thousands of skilled graduates who are now contributing to Kenya's economy and beyond.
